MISCELLANY > A Little Pretty Pocket-Book

August 2010

A Little Pretty Pocket-Book is a 1744 children's book published in Britain by John Newbery, containing what is the first known instance of the word "baseball" in print. The above image is doctored using letters from other pages to make the derogatory sentences I childishly wished to make. It made me chuckle, anyway...

It would be wrong not to note that on the day I made this (Saturday, August 28, 2010), Brian Tallet pitched one inning, giving up a hit, a walk, and striking two out in the eight inning of a game. The Blue Jays beat the Tigers 5-4.
