the Miami Vice bit made me lol, dude !!11!!

I've had bad experiences at NY customs too - if I can I always fly into Newark, it's like a different planet, people welcome you into their country and ask you what you'll be doing in a make-sure-you-check-out-all-the-neat-stuff way rather than an I-have-the-power-to-deport-you way

Wow, sounds like a dreamy place. Glad you got there before the planned community is up and running (ruining).

On immigration: I stayed in Toronto a few years ago and once took a trip to New York. On the way in, we stood for 45 minutes in an unmarked corridor surrounded by motionless drones in facemasks (this was during the SARS thing) before they'd even tell us which way to passport-control, then we were gruntingly grilled by some kind of ex-Marine with a very obvious gun, who confiscated my apple and gave me hell for not knowing where I was going to stay yet. In contrast, on the way back into Canada, the queue moved swiftly towards a nicely rounded chap with a crooked name-badge, whose face, on seeing my British passport, lit up. "Aw, you from England eh? What's hapnin on Coronation Street? My wife loves that show!"

> highlight: t-shirts with Un-Belize-able written on them

Gold.

> the vagina-owning half of the couple that runs Hickatee Cottages where I'm staying

Platinum. Ignore the haters, Craig: if they can’t take a bit of colour, they’re just pussies.

"...going outside and smoking in Miami, and listening to the Miami Vice theme on the iPod." I thought that was excellent, I get all sorts of flashes of flamingo's and black and white houses out of glass and concrete and white linen blazers, but what the hell kind of choice of words is this: "And the vagina-owning half of the couple..."???
Enjoy the warmth. Europe looks gloomy.
