At the roundhouse last year, I was too near the front to contemplate taking plugs out for any length of time during the 'Apolcalypse'. My 38yr old ears couldn't cope...

My first gig in the states was really enjoyable. I was visiting Milwaukee on business last year and went to see Spiritualised at the Turner Ballroom. They had candlelit tables at the back, and the bar was knocking out cans of the local PBR brew. No yellow jacket security in sight.

That venue does look a little too 'The Man™' for my liking.

I saw MBV at the Manchester Apollo, a lovely old theatre, and they were absolutely fantastic. The acoustics are perfect in there, and it was so LOUD.

The 'Apocalypse' section at the end of '...Realise' was the longest they've done to date, clocking in at a brain-bleeding 43 minutes or so. Apparently, Kevin likes to gauge the response of the crowd as he builds up the layers of noise, and, if he sees enough people floating off into a sort of trance, he just keeps going. So for the first 10 minutes, everyone's turning to their neighbour and going "'kin 'ell, bit loud, this, innit?", and then slowly everyone turns to face the stage, glassy-eyed and empty their minds. It took me about 20 minutes and then I really think I entered a kind of a trance. It really was an experience I'll never forget.

What t-shirt to wear! I remember intense discussions about what was appropriate. Never the band in question, but it was ok to wear a band related one, so if a member of the band was in an obscure side project that was ok.

My proudest one was a Temple of the Dog shirt at a Peal Jam concert. I was so cool and I knew it, all the kids wanted to be me and know where I got it from.

I shall be thinking of the different variants all day!
