Puerto Rico or Cuba?

with 2 comments

If like me you can never remember which is the Puerto Rican flag and which is the Cuban flag, I came up with a couple of mnemonic devices:

The triangle bit of the flag of Puerto Rico represents a rich port: blue with a star in it. The triangle bit of the flag of Cuba is red because they’re communists.

Puerto Rico is a self-governing territory of the United States, and has the same colour stripes as the U.S. flag. Cuba and the United States aren’t the best of friends, so the stripes are opposite.

As you were.

  1. Just remember, the cuban one is the prettiest.
un triangulo rojo, una estrella de plata. Tres listas azules, dos listas blanca. Asi es la bandera de cuba mi patria!!!
The red triangle represents the blood shed for the liberation of cuba from the Spaniards. The lone star means it’s a free country, a self-governing state. The three blue stripes represents the beautiful sky, and the 2 white stripes represents the purity of our ideals.
The flag has nothing to do with communism, it was made waaaaay before Castro came and screwed everything up.
